Another Reason to Not Support Budweiser

Here's a great reason to not drink the swill...Budweiser is sponsoring FIFA in Qatar in 2022. As you may have heard, Qatar has basically garnered slave labor to build the stadiums and infrastructure required and people are dying, being denied leave to go home to Nepal to help in the earthquake recovery and other human rights abuses.

Drink local craft beer made by your local neighbors and business people...and fuck Budweiser and the rest of the corporate sponsors of slavery. Friday Tasting- Bang The Drum

I stopped in at Bang The Drum Friday the 20th for a tasting session. Arriving in the afternoon, the pub was slow so I was able to talk to the bartender while tasting.

Tomorrows beer menu will probably be different than Friday's with small batches brewed near daily!
I ordered the beer sampler, which is four beers of your choice for $7.00 for the regular pours, add a $1.00 for a premium pour. For those buying a full pour, you can get most beers in a pint size, some of the high ABV beers will be a 9 oz pour.

Bang The Drum pours small batches of beer, meaning what you drank here 3 days ago is probably gone and a new batch and style was brewed up in the meantime.
Welcome to Bang The Drum, on the corner of Orcutt Road and Duncan Lane.

Today's tasting included three beers from the regular pour menu - two IPA's GlutenFree IPA and Kingmate IPA, Draca, a chocolate Porter and Sour Saison, a premium pour.

Drink up! Left to right, Sour Saison, Draca Porter, Kingmate IPA and Glutenfree IPA
Left to right, Sour Saison, Draca Porter, Kingmate IPA and Glutenfree IPA
I'm kind of like Jack, Thomas Haden Church's character in Sideways...I'm not one of those fussy drinkers who have to detect every last subtle flavors in a beer, I'm a "I like it" or I don't kind of beer drinker. Of all the beer I tasted, I liked the Draca Porter and Kingmate IPA best, followed by the Sour Saison and lastly the Glutenfree IPA.
The Glutenfree IPA was ok, I like my IPA's hoppy, this has less hops and used honey, sorghum, rice and oats for flavor. It's 5.5 % ABV.
The Kingmate IPA had more of that hop flavor I prefer and at 6.5% ABV with Yerba Mate could be a health beverage!
The Draca Porter had a nice smooth flavor with the chipolte peppers leaving a subtle hint in my mouth. It's delicious and at 5.6% ABV wasn't overwhelming in alcohol.
Finishing out my tasting was the Sour Saison, a 5/4% ABV beer that had a fruity flavor, perhaps best as an after dinner beer?

Pouring a specialty brew.

Bang The Drum is a cool little space located not far from the bike trail, so it's easy to reach by bike from SLO and there's plenty of parking for cars too. It's great spot to hang outside in their beer garden or on cooler/rainy days the interior is cozy and warm.

See whats happening at Bang The Drum on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BangTheDrumBrewery

Most beers are anywhere from $5 to $7 each, there's no growlers to go (small batches of beer sell to quick) and you can buy some bottles from Crossroads Liquor at Orcutt and Broad. You can also enjoy their brews at several local restaurants-Novo, Foremost Wine Co and Petra.

Stop by sometime, check the hours to make sure they are open. Mondays, Wed, Thursday from 2pm to 10 pm, closed on Tuesday's and Sat/Sunday they are open from noon to midnight.

Welcome to Live Fast, Drink SLO!

Howdy, What Up, Buenos Dias, Hello and Welcome...

Live Fast, Drink SLO is getting up and running, gearing up to being the source on local brew pub and micro-breweries happenings, beers on tap, and where to find these suds.

I'm out searching high and low for the best brews, whether your taste runs to ales, IPA's, stouts or whatever pleases your beer palate. I'll be posting pictures and tasting notes on our local brewers offerings and giving you maps and directions to find these brews around our county.

If you are a brew pub, a microbrewery or a pub specializing in hard to find brews, let me know so I can post a page up on your business (free).

Readers, let us know where the best places to buy micro brew beers are-local neighborhood grocers, supermarket or wherever so others can find a bit of beer nirvana too.

Cheers and bottoms up!
